Assessment for learning (Formative) is used by teachers during teaching process to ensure that learning is taking place. It helps in identifying pupils needs(which are tackled immediately)and progress. It is much better form of Assessment than Assessment of learning (Summative)
Assessment of learning determines pupils achievements at the end of the lesson or term.
Assessment for Learning requires diligence on the part of the teacher. It must be internationally planned into a lesson from the outset to achieve effectiveness.
But Assessment of Learning is quite cheap to administer as it puts the teacher in the role of a judge rather than a guide.
Assessment for learning is an everyday inventory of the classroom account by the teacher for the learners for learning to take place. That’s it helps checkmate the different kinds of learners and their abilities and also building on the lesson plan.
Meanwhile, Assessment of Learning is the end process of the means that determines the end, of the term.
Assessment for learning is the constant evaluation process which take place during teaching and learning to check level of understanding of student while learning.
AFL is the day to day classroom assessment done to ensure that the learners are learning and their challenges are picked up and dealt with immediately.
AOL is the end of year or course assessment to see the overall performance and progress of the learners.
The AFL is more to be encouraged and given priority attention.
AFL helps to inform the teacher on how and where learners need help, it’s for guidance. While the AOL is judgemental. ADL should done regularly for learning to be long lasting.
Assessment for learning is done by the teachers while the lesson is ongoing as it is the pointer to the teacher on areas that are not quite clear to the students which she will re visit. It also points to the teacher the area that have been received by the students.
Assessment for Learning is formative in that students and teachers get to determine if learning is taking place and where there maybe noticeable gaps the teacher can make necessary adjustments to their lesson plans to plug such learning gaps.
Assessment of Learning however is more of cumulative assessment where students are tested at the end of the term or course to measure how much learning has actually taken place.
Assessment for learning is the same as Formative and it’s the type where students are assessed at the end of the term while summative or assessment of learning is the assessment that is done at the end of every lesson

Formative assessment is used while learning is in progress, to test how well the lesson have been taught and the level of progress the learners are making as the lesson continues.
Summative is assessment is used at the end of a stipulated time of some specified lesson and how well the students are prepared for external assessment.
Assessment for learning is an excellent tool that every teacher should use in order to ascertain that learning has taken place.

Summative assessment on the other hand helps to measure the cumulative learning outcome.
Yeah! I’m super excited about this module. Can’t wait to know about techniques used for formative assessment. The importance of formative assessment can’t be overemphasized as teacher is able to know where each pupil need help while lesson is ongoing.
Assessment is one of the way which you will use to evaluate pupils during teaching and learning process.it is use to check the level of understanding of student while learning.
Assessment for learning (Formative)
Assessment of learning (Surmmative)
