REMEMBERING: Cinderella was being brought up in a dysfunctional family where the stepsisters had all the advantages and Cinderella had all of the disadvantages. There seemed to be no mention of father so it is assumed her father is dead. She was treated like a servant in her own home.
UNDERSTANDING: Cinderella never had a moments rest in the home. There was always work to keep to keep her occupied. She waited hand and foot on her step sisters. This was a situation created deliberately by her stepmother so that her daughters would have the upper hand. Both she and her daughters were quite wicked to Cinderella.
APPLYING: Cinderella triumphed at the end because of the power of POSITIVITY and LOVE. She refused to pay back evil for evil or react in like manner to the negativity she was getting. LESSONS: No matter how long it takes, don’t give up on your dreams.
Love always triumphs, so keep on exhibiting love.
Do not allow someone else’s behaviour to change yours negatively.
ANALYSING: In our society past and present, situations like this at varying degrees abound. In fact, some cases have come to light in which some children get seriously injured or die from the harsh treatment meted out to them by their supposed caregivers.
EVALUATING: As the minister of Children and Youth affairs, to forestall/curtail situations like Cinderella’s in our society, I will :
1. Create a welfare department in every community that caters to children and youth affairs.
2. Enforce the child labour laws already embedded in the constitution.
3. Create an awareness in the society so minors know where to go if they need help.
4. Make sure adults involved in child abuse/labour are made tp face the law squarely.
5. Ensure that every school age child is in school.
CREATING: Cinderella, so pure in heart, but made to sleep in the hearth
Wicked stepmother almost made her miss the prince’s heart
Out comes Fairy godmother to the rescue, Cinderella made the ball
Her dainty feet was the identity that made the prince search her out
Alas! the glass slipper was broken, but not to worry
The twin slipper from her pocket fitted perfectly
And at last Cinderella was swept home by her prince charming
And life became perfect ever after!
EVALUATING: As the minister of
